In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
As the Health Career Ladder Science Fair Program Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in promoting the the PUSD Science Fair through consistent programming and curriculum building to support middle to high school students prepare. Under the guidance of Dr. Elizabeth Rega, your responsibilities will encompass curriculum development, coordination of science fair activities, and the promotion of engagement within the Health Career Ladder program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Curriculum Development: Proficient in developing engaging and effective curriculum, specifically using the 5Es teaching model. Science Education: Strong knowledge of the scientific method and research practices applicable to middle and high school levels.
Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to be flexible in curriculum content, balancing health sciences with broader science-related materials.
Coaching: Ability to coach and guide students in developing health sciences-related activities, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Leadership: Ability to take a leadership role in coordinating and executing science fair activities within the Health Career Ladder program. Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and families involved in the program.

Required Qualifications
Enrollment in a Relevant Academic Program:
  • Currently enrolled in a college program related to education, science, or a relevant field. Pursuing a bachelors degree is preferable.
  • Strong academic record, demonstrating a solid understanding of educational principles and scientific concepts.


Curriculum Development Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability or coursework in developing educational curriculum, with an emphasis on engaging middle and high school students.
Commitment and Availability:
  • Commitment to being available for all Health Career Ladder Saturday Academies, including the specified dates outlined in the contract.

Curriculum Development: Develop a dedicated pre-science fair curriculum, including in-person meetings on Saturday Academy dates for interested students. This curriculum should engage students in the 5Es (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) teaching model as well as facilitate student independent work/reading between sessions.

Science Fair Promotion: You will play a vital role in promoting the Science Fair program by producing informative flyers, sharing timelines to build awareness, and making announcements to keep participants informed.

Data Collection: Collect student outcome data through demonstrated knowledge of the scientific method and building a science fair skill set, interest, and one or more student proposals and/or projects. The data will be collected through the following outcome measures:
  • Surveys assessing knowledge of the scientific method and research.
  • Increased actual number of students participating in PUSD Science Fair from HCL.
  • Culmination in a mini science fair for participants on display and judged by teachers and faculty during the April award ceremony.
