The Academic Advisor will manage an assigned caseload of students and provide comprehensive academic advising for undergraduate business majors within the Rollins College of Business. The advisor will meet with each student in their caseload to develop an individualized academic plan, including major specific course planning. Academic advisors are responsible for cultivating a learning environment and practices that increase academic success and professional growth. This holistic approach to advising is intended to add value to the student experience in the college as well as increase sense of belongingness and inclusion for a diverse student body.

As required, the position will work with colleagues within the success center and in other departments within the Rollins College to assist students with navigating registration, scheduling, campus or college policies, and challenges that might negatively impact student persistence and timely graduation. The advisor may also support recruitment efforts in the college by participating in new student orientation, academic fairs, and other recruiting events with students interested in earning a business degree. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare and deliver to undergraduate students in the Rollins college of Business comprehensive, accurate academic plans; maintain records related to student advisement using the designated case management system(s); respond to the enrollment services graduation specialist, as needed, to increase the potential of students to complete graduation requirements, including completing necessary documentation and commencement planning when needed; participate in new student orientation sessions; anticipate potential obstacles for student success and respond accordingly for respective caseload; and communicate efficiently and appropriately in a timely manner with the Advising Manager and/or Advising Coordinator about students with identified retention and matriculation obstacles.

Make appropriate student referrals to campus or community resources for students in crisis or experiencing personal challenges; identify barriers to student success and share with department leadership; disseminate information to students about academic support opportunities through the designated case management system; serve as a pathfinder to teach students how to access resources, find answers to questions, and learn to problem solve; provide professional, courteous service to students seeking support within the Rollins College of Business; and meet with students in the Rollins College of Business individually to facilitate discussions about pertinent academic policies, university policies, and academic progression that increases student persistence, student retention, and graduation.

Process student petitions and appeals in addition to issuing course overrides in accordance with university, college, and departmental guidelines; academic advising that supports the needs of special student populations in the college, as needed; collaborate with students to identify co-curricular and extracurricular activities to increase engagement at UTC and in the RCOB; identify student challenges and topics of concern that may negatively impact student persistence; and cultivate a learning environment and culture within the college that increases sense of belongingness for students.

Represent the Rollins College of Business at orientation session, recruiting, and other events or activities as assigned; participate in the University Advising Council; promote events sponsored by Career Development; promote events and initiatives sponsored by the Coordinator for Student Recruitment and Programs; and engage in professional development opportunities that increase knowledge of best practices in advising.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in a higher education setting with direct experience assisting students with academic needs; experience may include providing advising services, coordinating other student support services, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.

Preferred Qualifications: Three to five years of experience as an academic advisor at a university.
