Manager, School & Teacher Programs

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Co-Directors of Learning & Engagement, the manager will facilitate engaging experiences for students in K-12 schools and classrooms statewide through creative, hands-on, and responsive programming that connects classroom core subjects to UMFA's global art collection. In addition, the manager will develop resources and professional development workshops for teachers on how to integrate visual arts into K-12 classrooms in accessible, practical, and innovative ways. This position does require travel and teaching in classrooms throughout Utah with multiple overnight trips throughout the school year.

Responsibilities
Duties include: Create and implement engaging programs and curricula for schools and teachers that are grade-appropriate and interdisciplinary. When appropriate, these programs will be developed in partnership with K-12 leaders and based on goals, philosophies, and pedagogies identified by both the Museum and schools served. Independently travel and facilitate interactive in-class instruction through art workshops in K-12 classrooms statewide utilizing UMFA resources and artworks. Extensive travel to and from schools throughout the state with overnight commitments is required. Develop relevant resources for teacher's professional development including, but not limited to curricula, creative prompts, classroom posters, and at least one educator workshop per year. Collaboration with teachers, administrators, artists, and community organizations to create content and format for events is an important part of the position. Set and implement goals for sharing resources and programs with focus school districts. Contacting, communicating, and scheduling directly with administrators and teachers, as well as a developing a quarterly newsletter. Build relationships and partnerships with K-12 teachers and leaders, University of Utah departments, and museum colleagues statewide. The manager will champion collaboration and develop meaningful and long-lasting partnerships defining its role as a resource for these audiences. Be well-informed of best-practices and current trends in both K-12 education and museum education, suggesting revisions and/or proposing new offerings to programming and curricula based on grade level and overall quality. Collect detailed statistical information on programs and document evidence to demonstrate impact. Manage and maintain supplies and educational materials for programs. Monitor budget and keep detailed records of spending. Implement processes for evaluating programs on an ongoing basis. Represent the Department of Learning & Engagement through UMFA cross-departmental exhibition planning teams; programs; and collaborations across Museum departments to support collective efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
