Job Description
This position supports the Tickle College of Engineering's Office of Student Success initiatives by developing and coordinating strategic recruitment initiatives for the college designed to attract transfer students and students for the Applied Engineering degree program. The Transfer Outreach Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Success and works alongside the Student Success Recruiter as well as working closely with the other college units (e.g. Communications) in support of long- and short-term goals and activities to enhance recruitment and retention of students.

This position has two main responsibilities: Outreach, recruitment, and support of transfer students and prospective Applied Engineering students. This position will collaborate with Community College and University of Tennessee partners to establish consistent interaction by way of visits, fairs, and other developed events. This role will counsel a diverse set of prospective students and parents, represent TCE at recruitment events, coordinate and manage recruitment travel schedules, visits, and general office duties.


Responsibilities
Transfer student outreach and recruitment:
  • Create and execute plans to reach out to potential transfer students, figuring out the best ways to connect with them through in-person events (internal and external), online campaigns, or partnerships with community colleges.
  • Build strong relationships with community colleges, working closely with advisors and faculty to ensure a smooth transfer process for their students into our engineering programs. Particular emphasis will be on guiding prospective transfer students through the application process, helping them understand the requirements of our programs in collaboration with TCE advising office.
  • Assists with establishing college recruitment goals by leveraging data from assessments (ACT & SAT) and in collaboration with the university recruitment activities to develop recruitment plans.
  • Design and implement specific orientation activities for the beginning of each semester to help transfer students transition to TCE, including targeted tracking and follow-up check-ins during their first semester and beyond.

Applied Engineering program outreach and recruitment:
  • Create and execute an outreach plan, including outbound contacting of students and counselors related to Applied Engineering program.
  • Advise prospective students, parents, high school guidance counselors, community college partners on the admissions process, policies, financial aid/scholarships options, campus housing, academic, curricular and related university information.
  • Give presentations, support ongoing recruitment events, develop new initiatives, coordinate with advising, and serve as liaison with faculty and staff involved with the admissions process.
  • Generate annual reports backed by data collected.
  • Help support existing programs and develop new opportunities to bring students to the UTK campus.
  • Track and analyze outreach efforts to measure their effectiveness and make necessary adjustments to improve our strategies to track Applied Engineering students.

Represent TCE at recruitment events:
  • Alongside the Student Success Recruiter this role represents TCE at relevant TACRAO college fairs and TBR events, as well as at Undergraduate Admissions events. Focus will be particularly on recruiting for new Applied Engineering program through social media (working with TCE communications), community events, and educational fairs to showcase hands-on opportunities.
  • Works with Office of Student Success to plan Transfer Student Day events including hosting sessions and workshops for prospective transfer students, providing them with all the information they need about our programs and how to transfer.
  • Coordinate with all relevant departments, especially the Department of Applied Engineering, to ensure that outreach activities align with the department's goals and objectives.

Office:
  • Answer emails, phone calls and counsel prospective students, high school counselors, community college partners, alumni and other UTK offices.
  • Process expense reports and car logs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2-4 years experience in admissions, visitor/information services, outreach, or advising at a regionally accredited community college, college or university. Student worker experience or volunteer work in college admissions, recruitment, and peer counseling/advising will be considered.
    • Experience giving oral presentations.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Attention to detail, writing, listening and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to independently and strategically plan visits, events and presentations for prospective students.
    • Ability to lift, transport and distribute objects up to 25 pounds.
    • Oral presentation/public speaking skills.
    • Knowledge of university admissions process.
    • Ability to problem solve and research solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Master's degree
  • Experience:
    • Experience working with diverse populations.
    • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data driven decision making and relationship building.
    • Territory management, report building and maintenance, and the use of data driven decision making for planning and strategy development.
    • Work with nontraditional students or community college students.


  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of university admissions, financial aid and travel policies.
    • Ability to work with new technologies to enhance recruitment.
    • Experience with transfer and/or nontraditional students.

Compensation and Benefits
  • UT market range: 08
  • Anticipated hiring range: $50,000 - $55,000
