AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION
  • Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
  • Position Status: Permanent
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day with 30-minute lunch, between the hours of 7:00 am - 5:30 pm
  • Location: Current vacancy at Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC), but could support both campuses
  • Salary: Range 35, $5,864.33 - $7,228.63 Monthly

Duties


GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, plans, develops, implements and supervises the education program and activities for an toddler or preschool classroom in a learning laboratory setting, in accordance with District policies and procedures and state regulations; and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Child Development Center Teachers are responsible for planning, developing, implementing, supervising and providing care, guidance and developmentally appropriate learning and socialization experiences for toddler and/or preschool-aged children to encourage and facilitate positive social and cognitive learning. Child Development Center Teachers carry out these functions in a learning laboratory environment with District Early Childhood Education (ECE) students. Observations may be conducted via observation rooms, live camera recordings or in-classroom study.

Child Development Center Teacher is distinguished from Child Development Center Associate Teacher in that incumbents in the former class are accountable for supervising and maintaining the classroom environment to meet Center, state and accreditation requirements and mentoring college students within the lab school.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:
Possession of a valid California Child Development Permit (CDP) at the Teacher level or above (see licenses below). Additionally, a Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field with a minimum of one (1) year of recent, relevant experience working with children in a childcare facility, school setting or similar environment. Alternatively, an Associate's degree in a field listed above and a minimum of three (3) years of recent, relevant experience as above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience mentoring, supervising, or training practicum students, teaching assistants, or new staff is highly desirable.

Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35- hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

Required upon application:
  • May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Possession of a Child Development Permit (CDP) at the Teacher level or above issued by the California Commission on Credentialing (CTC) prior to employment. It is the employee's responsibility to renew and maintain the Child Development Permit during their employment with the District. Requires:
    • 24 semester units in early childhood education or child development, including core courses in child/human growth and development; child, family, and community; and curriculum.
    • 16 semester units in general education (including English, math/science, social science, and humanities).
    • 175 days of experience in an instructional role in a child care or development program, at least 3 hours per day, within the last 4 years.


Required upon hire (applicants must obtain the following prior to their start date):
  • Results of a TB test performed within 60 days of hire date.
  • Proof of having received the MMR vaccine or immunity to Measles (Titers).
  • Proof of having received the Pertussis/TDAP vaccine within the past 10 years.
  • Proof of having received the Influenza vaccine or a signed waiver opting out.
  • Valid First Aid/Adult and Pediatric CPR Certificate dated within one year prior to hire date.
  • Current Adult and Pediatric CPR Certificate with Health & Safety Component (15 hours) if necessary.
  • Fingerprints, Child Abuse Index, and FBI check submitted and cleared to the Department of Justice and on file with/or reported to the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division prior to employment.
  • Basic IPM for the Classroom and Office Environment (in compliance with the Healthy Schools Act, State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation).
  • California Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training for Child Care Providers (4 hours).

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

  • If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.


Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:
  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
  • scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs***
  • in-person or online:
    1. written examination(s)
    2. qualifications appraisal oral examination
    3. performance examination
    4. technical oral examination
      (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

  • Training and Education: Week of June 2, 2025
  • Performance Exam (25%) and Qualification appraisal interview (75%) (may be via Zoom or in-person): Week of June 16, 2025
  • Final interview (in-person only): Week of July 1, 2025
  • Tentative hire date: As soon as possible or by July 15, 2025
