About the Position:
The College of Communications is committed to advancing a democratic society by preparing students to perform in a variety of communication professions. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Assistant to the Dean (Administrative Analyst/Specialist-Non-Exempt). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under general supervision, the Assistant to the Dean provides high-level administrative and analytical support to the Dean, Dean's office, and other administrators in the College of Communications. Serves as the principal liaison between the Dean and administrative personnel, faculty, staff in all components of the campus as well as the external community. This position serves as a key resource to manage the Dean's office, support college centers and functions, while working with a variety of constituency groups such as the Dean's development team, Titan Communications, academic departments, and staff.
In addition to overseeing confidential communications and calendars for the Dean, the position requires analysis and interpretation of administrative policies and an understanding of the organizational unity of the Dean's office as well as the entire university. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing Dean's office day-to-day operations, identifying operational and logistical needs to streamline processes and services, coordinating space planning needs, overseeing social media activities and other communications media, alumni outreach, planning and executing special events, and attentiveness to timely and sensitive matters. Coordinates Deans' travel. Attends meetings as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving the study, analysis, evaluation, development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs. Working knowledge of the general practices, program or administrative specialty. Basic knowledge of and the ability to apply fundamental concepts. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program, organizational unit or administrative specialty. Knowledge of and the ability to apply basic methods and procedures used for research and statistical analysis. Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques. Ability to make independent decisions, exercise sound judgment, handle multiple priorities, and organize and plan work assignments. Ability to compile, write, and present reports related to program or administrative specialty. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in general office work. Previous experience coordinating and planning events and meetings. Experience in appropriate use of social media and other communication channels. Demonstrated successful experience working in a multicultural and linguistically diverse setting. Discretion, professionalism, and ability to organize self and others to prioritize tasks for maximum effectiveness.
